My friend Patty pointed out the great shadows cast by the high noon sun in this coconut grove outside Pu'uhonua o Honanunau.
Pu'uhonua o Hananunau was a fascinating place. It was a sacred place that those who had broken kapu (laws) could achieve forgiveness and a reprieve from a death sentence. The refuge is on the coastal side, behind the black wall you see in the background.
